Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.
Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.
At our school, we aim to develop the students' skills through a sequential program, offer students opportunities to enhance their skills through a variety of optional programs and increase student self-esteem and confidence in their ability to perform.
Performance opportunities
As performance opportunities arise, the school invites the students to be part of the group that auditions. It is understood that if children join the performance groups then they will be able to perform.
In the past, opportunities to perform have included:
- local festivals (Redfern, Newtown and Chippendale)
- conference openings
- opera house concerts
- aboriginal celebrations
- state dance festivals
- pacific school games
- Schools Spectacular
- The Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies
- The Paralympic Games opening ceremony
Rehearsals are essential and often operate outside school hours.
